This Eat Leeds week, we’re highlighting the very finest offerings around. Select restaurants are going beyond the standard 2 or 3 courses for £15, and offering tasting experiences too! We do love taster menus here at Restaurants of Leeds, because it allows you to experience the dishes the restaurant consider to be the very best representation of them.

Welcome to Crafthouse

Crafthouse is an innovative British restaurant, which utilises the finest seasonal, local produce to create culinary experiences that you’ll remember for at least a week after visiting. We’re continually enchanted by their a la carte menu, but that’s not what we’re talking about today. Today, we’re salivating over their Eat Leeds taster menu, 5 courses to delight your tastebuds. We can’t pick an overall favourite, but maybe you’ll be able to.

You’ll be starting with a delightful Duck and Deer Terrine, neatly served alongside walnut pickle, winter berry gel and pistachio cake. The delicate presentation means that you’re completely unprepared when the rich flavours of venison and waterfowl hit your palate. Its juxtaposition against the the sharp taste of the pickle and winter berry gel is magnificent. It melds on the palate and leaves you wanting more, which is great, because then there’s the soup…

Roast Porcini mushroom soup to be exact. This rich and nutty mushroom soup is a great mid step between the first and third courses. Crafthouse place this favour next to the sweetness of pickled pair and basil oil, then contrasting this against savoury notes of truffle cheese mousse. By doing all of this, the course remains fresh on the tongue and the whole serving is gone before you know it.

The Mains

We told you we couldn’t pick a favourite course, and we genuinely can’t. However, we can tell you we adore the Pan Roasted Salmon on this tasting menu.

Salmon cooked well is an art form, and Crafthouse do this beautifully. They surround the immaculate cut of fish with a delectable lobster foam and celeriac fricassee. If you’re not salivating already, you will be when the aroma hits you.

If one main course isn’t enough for you, you’re in the right place. Next, we have a Cornfed Chicken, served with couscous, curry and a boudin blanc. These playful flavours dance into the room on a scent cloud and suddenly, you’ll forget that you were starting to feel full. The portion sizing throughout is just enough to leave you always wanting more, but after 4 incredible courses, you’ll start to feel comfortably full of food.

This brings us onto the last course, the classic and quintessentially British Custard Tart. Crafthouse is bringing this dish to life with the addition of nutmeg and raspberry. The freshness of nutmeg and the sweet sharpness of raspberry help to perk you up. It also helps you to avoid the impending food coma.

So which course sounds like nirvana to you? The sumptuous flavours had us arguing long into the night. Sample the very best of a restaurant, and make your own mind up! That’s what Eat Leeds is all about after all.

Till next time, happy dining.
