This is where Tattu comes in, sashaying into the fore with amazing dishes. Trust us when we say you’re in for a delightful night that will have you coming back for more in no time!

To kick off the year of the dog Tattu have put together a sharing menu like nothing else in Leeds. It takes its inspiration from traditional dishes served in China at this time of year. This menu is designed for groups of between 2 and 8 people and is packed with fresh, rich and indulgent tastes. We’re looking at just some of the dishes they’re offering, because we believe that you should have some surprises in store! So, without further ado…

Szechuan Sea Bass

Don’t be scared, this fish has been caught, lovingly prepared and every possible careful step has been taken before it gets to your table.

Tattu - szechuan sea bass

Fish is often served with the head and tail still on in various regions of China, but this doesn’t mean you are expected to eat these parts. We’re a little squeamish about trying them… Now we’ve got past the presentation, we simply have to talk about the flavours! The Sichuan province is best known for it’s love of spices, and wow, they come through here. Cooked with fresh chillies, Shaoxing wine and garlic, the delicate flavour of the sea bass acts as a blank canvas to absorb these strong tastes. We loved the fiery flavours that bounded across our palate with each bite, and the energy of the dish almost seeps into the room. The chatter between tables was animated and bright, the chilli making the words tumble quickly from our mouths as we hurried back for another bite.

Before we knew it, the plate was empty and we couldn’t help but wonder how we’d gotten through it so quickly… We’ll never know for sure, we were just sad the dish was over! But we didn’t have long to wait before we were distracted by another vibrant dish.

Truffle Egg Rolls

This dish takes something relatively simple and classic (the humble egg roll) and elevates it to new heights. The truffled soy adds a depth of flavour unlike anything else, and when this is coupled with cucumber and aioli the most surprising this is the sweetness that lingers at the end of the bite.

We couldn’t get past how beautiful the arrangement of the plate was. It’s simple and minimalistic, yet promises so much flavour. The final touch of the pansy atop the dipping sauce really lifts your expectations, and fortunately, every promise is delivered on.

The Gift of Oranges

Finally, we come to dessert, The Gift of Oranges. A sweet, sharp and zesty orange trifle, served with chocolate and orange truffle and a refreshing orange sorbet.

Tattu - a gift of oranges

Though it sounds like the creaminess of the trifle wouldn’t work with the bright, citrusy orange flavours, it really comes together nicely! The contrast of flavours means that despite its sweetness, it’s never sickly. Much like the Szechuan Sea Bass, we devoured this sweet treat, and the last bite was a wonderful and sorrowful thing. We didn’t want it to be over, and this might mean we go back again before the menu finishes running on the 19th of February.
